Silver Law Group is investigating KeyCity Capital and Lasater Capital, LLC, on behalf of investors who took part in investments offered by Texas-based “financial influencers” and company founders Tie Glenn and Shiloh Booner Lasater. The investments were also sold to some investors through brokerage firm J. Alden Associates, Inc.
As influencers, Tie and Shiloh Lasater collaborated with well-known real estate dealers and celebrities, including rapper Vanilla Ice, former model Kathy Ireland, and others. The brothers used their media and online appearances to entice investments, raising hundreds of millions of dollars. They rapidly expanded their real estate holdings after the pandemic to over 4,000 apartments, but failed to consider the costs of upkeep, amongst other issues.
The Lasater brothers and their companies defaulted on more than $100 million in loans they didn’t adequately disclose in their marketing. These led to multiple foreclosures, while they continued to seek out new investors and capital.
On June 9, 2026, the Texas State Securities Board issued an Emergency Cease and Desist Order against Lasater Capital, LLC, and the Lasaters. The brothers were ordered to stop their alleged offer and sale of securities through materially misleading statements and omissions, including the loss of properties through foreclosure. These securities were tied to their real estate investments, many of which they no longer own.
The brothers have been the subject of multiple civil lawsuits by investors but have not been criminally charged. One investor lost her entire $1M nest egg, and another retired investor lost over $1M, requiring him to return to work. Both are suing the brothers.
In August 2026, the Lasater brothers settled with the TSSB, and agreed to refund investors who filed lawsuits and complaints.
Lasaters’ Investments Sold through J. Alden Associates
Many investors were recommended KeyCity and Lasater Capital investments by financial advisors of brokerage firm J. Alden Associates, Inc.
Broker Stephen Douglas Patterson Jr. of J. Alden served as “Director of Investor Success” at KeyCity Capital while also recommending the investments to his J. Alden clients.
The Lasaters’ Properties
What’s also unfortunate is the condition of their investment properties that the Lasater brothers still own. Residents of those properties report that once the apartments were bought by KeyCity Capital, (later renamed Lasater Capital) maintenance became non-existent. The properties deteriorated, with some residents living with rodents, mold, holes in walls and ceilings, dripping water, trash piles, no running water, and other health hazards. The Dallas Morning News detailed these problems in a story published in July.
Despite citations from city and state officials to remediate the problems, the properties are still allegedly unhabitable. Residents in some properties have been told to move, but many have nowhere to go. Maintenance contractors hired for the remediation work have never been paid by KeyCity or Lasater, such as trash removal, and filed liens against KeyCity for those bills.
